Let’s get started!
A physiotherapist (or physio) is a healthcare professional who helps people affected by injury, illness, or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education, and advice. We work to maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.
Physiotherapists assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders. We help patients to restore, maintain, and maximise their strength, function, movement, and overall well-being. This can include rehabilitation after surgery, sports injuries, chronic pain management, and more.
Physiotherapy may be needed for various reasons, such as:
- Recovering from an injury or surgery
- Managing chronic conditions like arthritis or diabetes
- Improving mobility and balance
- Recovering from stroke or neurological disorders
- Treating sports-related injuries
- Managing pain

During your appointment, your physiotherapist will conduct an assessment of your condition. This may involve asking about your medical history, performing physical examinations, and discussing your goals for treatment. Based on this assessment, we will develop a personalised treatment plan which may include exercises, manual therapy, education, and lifestyle advice.
If you need to cancel your appointment, it’s important to do so as soon as possible. This allows us to offer that time slot to another patient. We do require at least 24 hours notice for cancellations. Less than 24 hours notice will incur 100% fee charge.
Yes, at My Physio at Home, we specialise in home visits, bringing physiotherapy services to the comfort of your own home. This can be especially beneficial for those who have difficulty with mobility or transportation. During a home visit, our physiotherapist will bring the necessary equipment and conduct an assessment and treatment in your home environment. This service provides convenience and personalised care tailored to your needs.
The frequency of your physiotherapy appointments will depend on several factors, including the nature and severity of your condition, your treatment plan, and how you respond to treatment. In general, appointments may start more frequently (e.g., weekly or bi-weekly) for intensive treatment or acute conditions. As you progress, the frequency may decrease to once every few weeks or once a month for maintenance and monitoring. Your physiotherapist will work with you to determine the best schedule based on your individual needs and goals.
Yes, physiotherapy can be very effective in improving balance and reducing the risk of falls, especially in older adults or individuals with certain health conditions. Physiotherapists use specific exercises, manual techniques, and balance training to address issues related to balance and stability. They can also provide education on techniques to improve posture, strength, and coordination, all of which contribute to better balance and reduced fall risk.
There are several steps you can take to reduce the risk of falls:
- Stay active: Regular physical activity, including exercises that improve strength, balance, and flexibility, can help.
- Home safety: Remove tripping hazards, use handrails and grab bars, improve lighting, and secure rugs.
- Medication review: Some medications can affect balance and coordination. Discuss your medications with your doctor.
- Regular vision check-ups: Poor vision can contribute to falls.
- Footwear: Wear supportive shoes with nonskid soles.
- Balance exercises: Incorporate balance exercises into your routine.
- Bone health: Ensure you are getting enough calcium and vitamin D for bone strength.
In many cases, you do not need a referral from your GP to see a physiotherapist, especially if you are seeking private physiotherapy services like those offered by My Physio at Home. You can contact us directly to schedule an appointment.
Physiotherapists are healthcare professionals trained to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and movement disorders. We are often the right professionals to see for issues related to pain, mobility, injury recovery, rehabilitation, and more. However, in some cases, your condition might require specialised care from another healthcare professional. If you’re unsure whether a physiotherapist is the right person to see for your specific issue, please give us a call and we’d be happy to have a chat to determine this with you. We can then help guide you to the appropriate care if needed.
